Nicole Ari Parker is an American film TV and stage actor known for her performance as the spirited attorney Teri Joseph in the Showtime series Soul Food. Nikki Kodjoe is her new name after she married. She was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland she showed an inclination toward acting since childhood and received the Best Actress award at an Maryland high-school competition. When she was seven to nine, the young lady attended boarding schools in London. The family later relocated to Toronto where she lived throughout her early years. In Toronto, Contractor excelled in academics, and was trained to become ballet dancer of classical training. She studied at the Etobicoke School of the Arts in Toronto, a school of the arts focused on theatre and dance. At the age of 16 and after more than 10 years of dancing Contractor decided to take up acting as a profession. She accepted a full-scholarship to study at the University of Toronto after graduating. She earned a master's degree in theatre and also double-majored in psychology and social science. Contractor was offered the leading part in Pericles following a brief time at the University. She auditioned for the part at Stratford Shakespeare Festival (Ontario Canada) and won. She received rave reviews for her performance during the 92 performances that the play was voted"the best show of 2002" by Canadian reviewers in 2002. Contractor accepted the invitation to take part in Stratford's Conservatory course. The Conservatory has only 8 men and four females are admitted to a course of 20 weeks of classical theater. Contractor was offered a slot for the following season, and was offered the part of Hermia.
