Her career in journalism began with Myrtle Beach South Carolina as an anchor and news reporter for WPDE-TV. Later she was a morning-news anchor as well as crime reporter for WCBD TV. In Charleston O'Dell's stories regarding the police's lenient approach to DUI cases resulted in an State Law Enforcement Division investigation that led to State authorities issuing an even more strict directive on the instances.
